Who Can Fear?
American poet Bell Hooks authored more than 40 books before her death in 2021, and her poetry often exhales a Holy Spirit-inspired wisdom and peace. As we step into this new year, consider this poem from Hooks' 2012 collection titled Appalachian Elegy:
toward light
each bird flies
higher then higher
then swooping down
as though to plummet
as though air a net
to catch and comfort
who can fear
earth
who can fear
sky
when faced with
an infinite possibility
each moment given
a chance to soar
to enter beyond
Who can fear when we are offered such infinite possibilities? How will you bring Matthew 6:25-34 to the forefront this year so that your days might be defined by Christ's peace and hope as you swoop into the new?
Peace on your week,
Jennie
