-Rev. Dr. Jennie A. Harrop

 

Rev. Dr. Jennie Harrop began attending Cedar Creek Church in early 2011 with her family, and has served as Pastor since 2019. Jennie has a DMin in Semiotics from Portland Seminary, a PhD in English from the University of Denver, an MFA in Creative Writing from Colorado State University, and a BA in Journalism from Pacific Lutheran University. In addition to her work as Pastor of Cedar Creek Church, Jennie is an Associate Dean at George Fox University and Project Faculty for Portland Seminary's Doctor of Leadership in Global Perspectives.

Jennie has published six books, including The Jesus Quotient: IQ to EQ to AQ (2019), The Simple Math of Writing Well: Writing for the 21st Century (2018), and Angling for Repose: Wallace Stegner and the De-Mythologizing of the American West (2010). In the 1980s and 1990s, she was a news and crime reporter for several newspapers, including the Chicago News Tribune, The Oregonian, and The Tacoma News Tribune. She has served as Elder in three Presbyterian denominations over two decades: ECO, EPC, and PC(USA). As a bivocational Pastor, Jennie seeks to empower a uniquely collaborative church body, connecting congregation members with the people and resources they need to grow in Christ, love others well, and further God’s Kingdom by serving others.

Jennie and her husband, Karl, live in Sherwood and have five teens/twentysomethings: Miles, Piper, Mattie, Josie, and Carson.
