“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
- Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
A few years back I decided to finally read the Harry Potter series and a quote from Professor Dumbledore to Harry stood out: “Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.”
That quote reminded me of this verse from Galatians. Doing good or doing right is not always easy. So often doing the right thing is hard. We may lose relationships, we may lose opportunities, we may get made fun of but, according to this verse, we have planted a seed. We live in a society that wants immediate gratification and that typically involves the easy choice. God is interested in our long term happiness and eternity.
It may take years to see the fruit of our decisions to do good now, we may not see them until we reach eternity, but the impact of that harvest will be much more rewarding than anything we gain immediately by doing that is easy.
